FAQ's
Does my student need all the supplies for the first school day of school?
Yes, we will be assigning band lockers the first and second day of school, so please have your student bring their band supplies and rental instruments with them on the first day of school.
Note - the only supply that needs to stay home is the metal folding stand. That is used for at home practicing.
My child plays a school owned instrument (oboe, bassoon, tenor sax, bari sax, french horn, euphonium or tuba), do I need to rent an instrument from the music store?
No, we will provide a home and school instrument for most students the first week of school. In order for students to take home their "home" instrument, we must have a sign instrument contract and the $85 PISD fee must be paid.
When do I pay the $85 PISD fee for my child to use a school instrument?
Once the fee is set up in RYCOR you will get an email from Mr. Duck saying it is ready to pay. If you do not see if there, please email Mr. Duck at [email protected].
My child has a home instrument that they used during the summer, do I need to bring it back to school?
No. If we need to assign that instrument to a different student, we will contact you directly. In most cases, your child will keep that home instrument all school year.
I am not getting your emails, what should I do?
Two options:
Where should I go to get my child's band supplies?
Please look the bottom of the supply lists for recommendations.
How much are band fees going to be and how do I pay them?
Normally yearly band fees are around $25 for the year. This will include a band t-shirt, and the band binder that will be given to students the first week of school. All fees this year will be paid online through RYCOR. As always, if you need financial assistance or would like to set up a payment plan please email Mr. Duck. Performing band members (7th & 8th graders) will have additional costs during the year for things like region band entry, solo contest entry, ensemble contest entry, etc.
I cannot afford the rental fees for my child's instrument, what should I do?
We believe that financial hardship is never a reason that a child cannot participate in band. If you feel as though you would need assistance, please email Mr. Duck as soon as possible. The school district does have a limited amount of instruments that can be used, but the availability varies.
I want my student to be in private lessons? How do I get that set up?
To set up lessons, contact the lesson teacher and they will provide for your available times. You can find their contact info on our website, click HERE. Payment for lessons goes through the lesson teacher directly. If you feel that you are not getting a response from a lesson teacher in an appropriate amount of time, please email Mr. Duck. Lessons are 25 minutes long and cost $25 per lesson. Buddy lessons and bi-monthly lessons are not advised. Scholarships are available, but are limited and on a first come first serve basis.
